Guide • Step 1: Getting Started & Managing AI
How to Integrate AI Into Your Business, Step by Step
A simple way to pick the right first task, try AI on it safely and use real numbers to decide whether to keep it.
Step 1: Look at Your Week
For one week, note the tasks that repeat, involve a lot of writing, or are slow to answer: quotes, follow-ups, scheduling, posting, invoice reminders. These are the usual places to start.
Step 2: Rate Each Task
Rate each task on time spent, how often it repeats, the harm if AI gets it wrong, and how easy it is to check. Start with tasks that take a lot of time, carry little risk and are easy to check.
Step 3: Write Down Where You Are Today
Before changing anything, write down how long the task takes now or how fast you reply. Without that starting number you can’t tell whether AI helped.
Step 4: Try It for Two Weeks
Use one tool for one task, with a person checking everything it produces. Note the mistakes and the time saved.
Step 5: Keep, Fix or Drop
Compare with your starting number. Keep what clearly helps, adjust what’s close, and drop the rest without guilt.
Keeping AI Safe
The U.S. government’s NIST AI Risk Management Framework is a guide for handling AI risks. A small business can use the same idea in a lighter way: decide who makes the AI decisions, know where AI is used, check what it produces, and fix problems quickly.
